The Hip Hop community is remembering Nipsey Hussle a year after he was fatally shot in front of his Los Angeles clothing store.
Lauren London, widow and mother to his son Kross Asghedom, posted two photos to Instagram earlier this month leading up to the anniversary.
“Honorable. Powerful. Beautiful You Are,” she wrote. “Miss you every second of every day and even in my sleep. Until we are together again …. I’m holding it down.”
West Coast gangsta rap legend Snoop Dogg – who Nipsey admired and collaborated with throughout his career – shared a snippet of a Nipsey interview on Big Boy’s Neighborhood.
In the clip, Big asked Nipsey whether he was approached to play Snoop in N.W.A’s biopic Straight Outta Compton. Nipsey admitted he turned it down because one of the laws of branding he learned is “you don’t walk in no great man’s shoes.”
Big Boy commented on the post, remembering the Nipsey interview fondly.
“Magical moments,” he wrote. “He understood so much at such an early age. Miss you, Nip. Love you, Snoop.”
Meek Mill – who teamed up with Roddy Ricch earlier this year for a tribute song titled “Letter to Nipsey” – also shared an Instagram post in remembrance of Nip. The image shows both rappers on stage during Meek’s Motivation Tour. The two were supposed to put out a collaboration album before Nipsey’s untimely death.
In the caption, Meek pays tribute to Nipsey’s “marathon mindset,” simply writing, “#themarathoncontinues. #nipforever.”
T.I. shared two short clips on Instagram in honor of the anniversary. The first features various video snippets of Nipsey titled “Hussle Tha Great.” The caption reads, “Rest up Cuzz.”
The second post is a short video of Nip and Tip hanging out with Dave Chappelle at Magic City.
“Just Us Kickin shit Before the world went crazy…,” T.I. wrote in the caption. “Ain’t been the same since. Never will be. Even still… We’ll take memories like these & lessons we learned from your life into eternity wit us King. TMC.”
YG, one of the Nipsey’s closest friends in the industry, mourned the late rapper as well.
“BIG BRO. WE LOVE YOU. WE MISS YOU,” he wrote on Instagram. “6 dozen of roses. 6 1942’s. 6 of yo real loved 1s.”
DJ Khaled posted a series of photos with Nipsey in the studio and on the set of his “Higher” video featuring John Legend.
“Bless up @nipseyhussle ICON,” he wrote in the caption. “@nipseyhussle INSPIRATION TO ALL OF US. THE MARATHON CONTINUES LONG LIVE @nipseyhussle. Grateful for your friendship #HIGHER THE HIGHEST HUMAN ACT IS TO INSPIRE @nipseyhussle”
Khaled also posted a video of the Nipsey tribute performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Neighborhood Nip was gunned down in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019. After pleading not guilty to all charges, his alleged killer Eric Holder is expected to go on trial in April.
