In this interview, Christine delves into the inspiration behind her new single and shares insights into her creative process and musical journey.

Christine, can you describe the inspiration behind your new single, “I’ll Be Right Here”?

Like many songs I write, the inspiration just flows through me. For this particular song, I was simply playing on the piano one day, and the melody started to come to me. From this, I organically began putting words to it that just felt right, and it evolved from there… This resulted in a song about a profound bond, devotion, and trust within a relationship.

What themes and emotions are you exploring in this track, and how do they connect with your personal experiences?

This song encompasses themes of deep connection, security, and a surrender to a love that cannot be fully explained (“don’t ask me how, don’t ask me why, it just is”). I have certainly experienced this sort of love in my personal life, but beyond that, there is an extent to which I identify some of the lyrics with my love of singing and music. In other words, “I’ll be right here, where I belong,” also makes me think of how I will always be singing and involved with music because it is one of my greatest loves of all in this lifetime.

How did your collaboration with Doug Hammer influence the final sound of “I’ll Be Right Here”?

Doug has an amazing ear and incredible musical intuitiveness. I just feel like he really “gets” my music when I share my songs with him, and he always has wonderful ideas to bring them to the next level. For instance, I never would’ve thought of having an electric guitar in the solo, but it’s just the perfect contrast that was needed!

What do you hope listeners will take away from “I’ll Be Right Here”?

I hope they will be moved to feel the feelings of what it’s like to have a deep connection – either one that is familiar and part of their current life, or one that they aspire to and know is possible within their heart.

To those who haven’t yet been fortunate enough to hear your music, how would you describe your sound?

With this current album, the sound is a mix of sweet intimacy and power amidst a transformative film-like atmosphere. This is not your everyday, running your errands kind of music; it’s meant to be more introspective and thought-provoking, and hopefully felt from a very deep place.

How does your background in cabaret and community theater influence your approach to songwriting and performance?

Both cabaret and community theatre aim to evoke a lot of emotion and exploration of the human experience, which is something that has always been a passion of mine. I like to be taken to a place that is deeper than the surface of what most of us are experiencing in our everyday lives. When you take away the hustle and bustle of life, what’s underneath? What really matters? In my opinion, that is connection – with others and with yourself. I hope to convey and elicit that in others.

What role has your grandfather, Luigi Vena, played in shaping your musical career and style?

Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away when I was only 4 years old. However, I have been told a lot about him, and I feel a connection with him all the time. I have a wonderful memory of him playing with me and smiling and laughing. I know he struggled in some ways as a musician, and yet I know he tried hard to go after his dreams and music was in his heart and soul. I feel like he’s watching after me and rooting for me; and that helps me feel less alone in this journey.

Can you share some key moments from your journey as a musician that have shaped who you are today?

The most profound impact I’ve had as a musician is meeting so many beautiful people throughout this musical journey. For example, I will always remember my first venture out into the world of open-mics and jams, and the wonderfully supportive community I found as a result.

I was able to build up my confidence, explore genres, discover new musical styles, and bare my soul with my very first attempts at songwriting. I can also remember how incredibly profound it was to have that deep connection with an audience for the first time. To feel the energy coming back to you, and to hear people say what an impact the experience made on them took everything to a whole other place. I continue to meet more and more wonderful people every step of the way, and that is incredibly fulfilling.

What do you want people to remember your music for?

I am hopeful that my music will put people in touch with their deeper feelings and emotions, and they will be touched in some memorable way. Many people have told me that my music elicits healing for them, which is a great honor to hear.
