Soccer Mommy – "Feed"

The Turning, director Floria Sigismondi’s movie adaptation Henry James’ classic horror novella The Turn Of The Screw, is getting the event-soundtrack treatment. Producers Lawrence and Yves Rothman rounded up an impressive list contributors for the project including Mitski, Kim Gordon, Alice Glass, Vagabon, Empress Of, Kali Uchis, Warpaint, Cherry Glazerr, and more. The soundtrack’s opening track and lead single, “Mother,” is by none other than Courtney Love. And in a display musical riches upon riches, they got a new Soccer Mommy song too.

Sophie Allison wrote “Feed,” which follows recent Soccer Mommy singles “lucy” and “yellow is the color her eyes,” expressly for The Turning. In a press release, she says she’s always wanted to write for a horror movie and explains that “Feed” is “a song about letting a demon feed f your body.” Intense! Yet despite the creepy lyrics about having your guts pulled out, the track is total comfort food for Soccer Mommy’s fan base — a continuation the emotionally raw, ’90s-informed indie-rock mastery that made Clean an instant classic debut.

Lawrence Rothman elaborates:

The Turning takes place in the 1990s – instead using licensed 90s music – Floria and I wanted to create a soundtrack that was 90s influenced mixing our favorite new artist and a few from the 90s era. Giving the film its own world and its own unique version the 90s that only this film lives in. When Sophie from Soccer Mommy sent the raw demo to “Feed” it became the main character Kate played by Mackenzie Davis cassette mixtape jam on constant repeat.
