Alejandro Sanz and Bad Bunny Topped Spain’s Charts in 2019; Music Sales Rose Over 20% Overall
Spanish artists top album sales while the Top 100 Songs list reflects popularity of Latin music in Spain.
Alejandro Sanz’s El Disco was Spain’s top-selling album in 2019, while Bad Bunny garnered the greatest number of streaming listens in a year in which music sales rose over 20% over all.
According to figures released today (Feb. 3) by Spanish industry association Promusicae, streaming was up more than 25%, with more than 10 million consumers using a streaming service. Subscription services showed the biggest gains, with YouTube views and ad-supported listening also rising in Spain. Physical album sales rose 5% compared to the previous year.
The Promusicae report noted that album sales continue to reflect the popularity of Spanish artists in the domestic market. On the list of Top 100 albums, Manuel Carrasco, El Barrio and Rosalía, respectively, followed Sanz, with 2019’s Spanish pop revelation Aitana coming in at no. 5.
The Top 100 Songs list, on the other hand, tells the story of the recent inroads of Latin music – and particularly reggaeton and other tropical urban styles – into the Spanish market. While Don Patricio, who is Spanish, sits at number one on that list with the saucy rhythmic dance track “Contando Lunares,” he is followed on Spain’s top song list by U.S. Latin music market chart toppers Daddy Yankee and Snow, Pedro Capo and Farruko, and Anuel AA. Bad Bunny sits at the top of Spain’s 2019 Streaming Songs list.
