Best Coast & ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Cast Bring a Game Show to Life in ‘Everything Has Changed’ Video
Best Coast's Beth Cosentino brushes off past bullies' comments and wishes to live her best life in the rock duo's new single "Everything Has Changed," out Friday (Jan. 17). But she doesn't look all that happy in the accompanying visual, in which she plays a grumpy game show host with some familiar faces: the cast of Vanderpump Rules.
The Ryan Baxley-directed clip shows Cosentino wiping off her cheery television face and throwing a backstage fit that she eventually brings in front of the camera by taking her anger out on the contestants. But a close listen to the lyrics while watching the clip reveals the catharsis she's going through. In the first verse, she broods, "I used to cry myself to sleep/ Reading all the names they called me/ Used to say that I was lazy/ The lazy, crazy baby." Yet in the second verse, she daydreams, "Now I'm sipping on my coffee/ Now I'm walkin' a little dog on a leash/ Now I live in a big pink house/ I escape to Witch Mountain every day."
"Everything Has Changed" comes before the duo's new album Always Tomorrow, which is due Feb. 21 Concord Records. It's the first new project from Best Coast since their 2015 LP California Nights.
"After we finished the album cycle for California Nights, something terrifying happened to me," Consentino said in a press release. "I felt creatively paralyzed. I couldn't write music. There was so much bubbling inside of me, so many things happening, so much to process, but I couldn't get any of it out. I was miserable and felt like nothing was ever going to change."
She continued, "One day, I locked myself in my closet and I forced myself to write, and out came 'Everything Has Changed.' The song was like a vision of life I wished I was living; ultimately, that song was prophetic — describing the life I would soon be living."
