Bright Eyes Sign to New Label, Drop First Tour Dates in Nearly a Decade: See Where They’re Headed
After teasing a reunion earlier this month, Bright Eyes are indeed back: they've announced their first live shows in more than nine years, along with plans to release new music. And unlike their previous nine albums, this project won't be released through Saddle Creek Records.
Bright Eyes has signed with the Indiana-based indie Dead Oceans and plans to tour and record new music in 2020. So far, they've announced a handful of dates: a Tokyo concert in March, a pair of L.A. dates in May, New York in June, and a trip to Salisbury, England for End of the Road Festival in September.
We don't know any details about the new music, though Dead Oceans co-founder Phil Waldorf did share the following statement regarding the signing:
”Bright Eyes is not just a formative artist for me personally, but for countless people who work at Dead Oceans. To get to work with a band that is part of our own origin stories in falling in love with music is the rarest of privileges. We are thrilled to be part of another great chapter in Bright Eyes enduring legacy.”
Oberst is no stranger to Dead Oceans; last year, the label released the self-titled debut album from Better Oblivion Community Center, his collaborative project with singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.
The most recent LP from Bright Eyes was 2011's The People's Key.
