Fan-favorite show Everybody Hates Chris, is coming back to the small screen but not quite how we remember it. According to a Deadline exclusive, CBS Studios is rebooting Chris Rock’s beloved autobiographical family sitcom as an animated series.

Looks like Rock will return as the familiar voice narrating the episodes but no other voice casting has been announced or confirmed. The original series starred Tyler James Williams, Terry Crews, Tichina Arnold, Tequan Richmond, Imani Hakim, and Vincent Martella. Also, there isn’t a network-attached but with the launch of Paramount+, one can only guess where this new take on Everybody Hates Chris may land.

With this new take on Rock’s off-center animated comedy being taken to the marketplace, that and a host of new projects including Jamal Joseph’s Panther Baby based on his memoir is part of the development slate at CBS Studios. This gives some insight into the expanding footprint of the powerhouse studio. They are seemingly digging into their library of IP and ratcheting up their animation projects to go hand in hand with their more traditional comedy slate such as The Neighborhood and more high brow premium “dramcoms” to the likes of Dead to Me. This strategy will allow CBS Studios to find new buyers across streamers, cable, and network television hence making them global players in the realm of production.
