Derek Jones, founding guitarist with U.S. post-hardcore band Falling in Reverse, died Tuesday (April 21) at the age of 35. The cause of death is currently unknown.

“I’ll never forget when you picked me up from jail In Your old tour van to start falling in reverse,” writes frontman Ronnie Radke in a social post. “Your spirit will be interwoven through the music I write forever. Rest In Peace Derek Jones. My heart is broken.”

Born June 5, 1984 in Lake Forest, California, Jones joined A Smile From The Trenches in 2007 and a year later, was part of the original incarnation Falling in Reverse. The talismanic Jones would switch between rhythm and lead guitar and often handled co-lead vocal duties, alongside Radke.

With Radke up front, the Las Vegas outfit released their debut album in 2011, The Drug in Me Is You, which went to No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and launched the band into prime festival slots around the globe.

Jones and Radke were the only bandmates to feature on all four Falling in Reverse albums, the most recent, 2017’s Coming Home. Each of those albums impacted the Top 40 on the Billboard 200.

Earlier this year, the band released a “reimagined” take on “The Drug In Me Is You.”
