The Princess and The Frog never seem to get the same level of respect other Disney productions and that is about to finally change.
Disney announced Thursday that the Splash Mountain ride at both Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida will be redesigned to feature characters from its animated movie “The Princess and the Frog.”
“We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance,” Disney said.
Disney added that its creative team of Imagineers are already at work on the redesign, beginning with conceptual artwork and “will soon be able to conduct preliminary reviews and develop a timeline for when the transformation can start to take shape.”
The announcement comes as there has been a renewed call from parkgoers for Disney to strip away the “Song of the South” theme from Splash Mountain. The song has been deemed racist by many even though the ride itself does not have any racist elements.
For what it’s worth, Disney claims they been working on this for over a year now and this move isn’t a reaction to the current climate of this country. Either way, the timing of good news is truly appreciated right now.
