E-40 Kicks Off Black Music Month with Iconic Tiny Desk Performance

Multiplatinum rapper and entrepreneur E-40 took over NPR’s Tiny Desk to launch Black Music Month with a setlist that spanned three decades of West Coast hip-hop. Backed by a live band, the Bay Area legend performed a string of fan favorites including “Tell Me When To Go,” “U and Dat,” “Snap Yo Fingers,” “Choices (Yup),” “Captain Save A Hoe,” “Yay Area” and “Function.”
The performance marked the 30th anniversary of E-40’s breakthrough album In A Major Way, a cornerstone of 90s hip-hop that cemented his influence and unique sound. The set also highlighted his mid-2000s resurgence with hits from My Ghetto Report Card and the viral return of “Choices (Yup)” through TikTok.
