Former SNL Comedian Jay Pharaoh Says LAPD Drew Guns On Him While Jogging and Kneeled On His Neck

Former Saturday Night Live comedian, Jay Pharoah, said that he was recently stopped by LAPD officers while jogging, the officers drew their guns on him and one of the officers even put his knee on Pharoah’s neck.

Pharoah shared the security camera footage of the encounter yesterday, June 12, on his Instagram page. “I could have easily been an Ahmaud Arbery or George Floyd,” he stated.

Pharoah spoke on the incident in a clip from the morning talk show, The Talk, which is to air Monday, June 15. He says that he was stopped by four LAPD officers while jogging, and they drew their guns. He was told that he fit a description of a black man who was wearing grey sweat pants and a grey t-shirt.

“I see a gun from my peripheral and I look and the officer is like, ‘Freeze – get on the ground,’ and I’m like ‘Oh snap’…” Pharoah said. “Three more officers drove up… it’s hot, corona is definitely something to be worried about, the police officers didn’t have on gloves, they didn’t have on masks…When they put me in cuffs, after they were all on me, an officer put his knee on my neck.”

Pharoah said that he told the cops to Google him, and that’s when they realized they made a mistake. The officers were then notified that the suspect had been apprehended and they let Pharoah go.

Pharoah said that the incident occured in late April, about a week before the video of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery was released.

“It could have easily turned into another situation if I wasn’t who I am. And the point here is being black in America, is just that, being black in America,” Pharoah said. “Other people can’t level with the same fears I have. Leaving the house, we should not have to fear going to the grocery store, going to get some gas, running down the street. It’s called human civility. That’s what it is. It’s about being a human.”
