The family of George Floyd has brought a civil lawsuit against the Minneapolis Police Department in the wrongful death of Floyd in May. The civil suit comes as Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison prepares his prosecution of the involved officers.

The family is expected to appear in a news conference on Wednesday to officially announce the civil suit. As we’ve seen in the past with police brutality cases that resulted in murder, the family often seeks and receives payment for the wrongful death.

The murder of George Floyd resulted in four terminations of involved officers as well as charges being brought against all four cops ranging from second-degree murder to aiding and abetting.

Since the May 25 incident, the city has moved to disband the local police department and reallocate funds that went to police to invest in a ” Community Safety & Violence Prevention Department” as a replacement.
