Pop music diva Janet Jackson is bringing JANET, as an epic two-part, four-hour documentary series to Lifetime and A&E. The release will coincide with the icon’s 40th anniversary of her debut album, Janet Jackson. At a virtual upfront presentation on Wednesday, A+ E Networks informed media participants that both A&E and Lifetime will air the immersive four-hour documentary over two televised nights.

The team at the A&E network group told press that the documentary series will provide fans with “unprecedented access” to Jackson’s often private life, where the content will offer an “intimate, honest and unfiltered look” at her meteoric rise to fame and her celebrated life as a pop culture superstar. Associated Entertainment Corporation and Workerbee are producing the documentary along with Jackson and her brother Randy Jackson. The series will be directed by Ben Hirsch who’s best known for Idris Elba’s No Limits.

The documentary will also profile Jackson over three years, where cameras have captured footage of Jackson’s private life even as she dealt with the 2018 death of her father, and family patriarch Joseph Jackson.

It’s said Jackson, will discuss some controversial and somber aspects of her life, including the untimely passing of her iconic brother and megastar Michael Jackson, as well as her infamous Super Bowl performance with Justin Timberlake, and how the backlash of the wardrobe malfunction leads to her being blacklisted by the entertainment industry for years. Jackson will also recall happier instances of her life, including her experience with motherhood. Fans will also have access to never-before-seen home videos, and archival content from Jackson’s storied life. The documentary will air in early 2022 on A&E and Lifetime.
