New York City Housing Authority thanked JAY-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation, and Jack Dorsey’s Start Small Foundation for their generous donation to its residents.
“Thanks to a generous donation from @ShawnCarterSF and #startsmall, every household at Marcy, Sumner, and Tompkins Houses received a supermarket gift card to assist in purchasing the food they need. Thanks for helping @NYCHA families during these uncertain times,” NYCHA tweeted.
JAY-Z joined forces with the Twitter CEO and his protege, Rihanna, to provide coronavirus relief to millions of families nationwide. They announced that they pledge $6.2 million of the relief fund to “protecting and serving marginalized populations,” especially in New York, New Orleans, and Puerto Rico.
The press release read:
Domestically, the fund will provide grants to Give Directly to help support low income families impacted by the pandemic, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City to support domestic violence victims, and the Covenant House New Orleans to provide shelter and other essential goods to the homeless. Other initiatives supported by the fund include the Second Harvest Food bank of Greater New Orleans & Acadiana, Total Community Action, and the Hispanic Federation.
The joint grants will also go towards initiatives internationally, including Doctors Without Borders, the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, Direct Relief, and Team Humanity.
