Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” Ties All-Time Record on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Kendrick Lamar is once again rewriting the record books. His latest hit “Luther,” a powerful collaboration with SZA, has tied the all-time record for most weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The track lands its 22nd week atop the chart dated May 31, matching the milestone Lamar previously set earlier this year with his explosive single “Not Like Us.”
“Luther” maintains its chart dominance with 16.7 million official U.S. streams, 2,000 digital sales, and 60.5 million in radio airplay for the week of May 16–22, according to Luminate. While each metric saw a slight dip—streams down 8%, sales off by 6%, and airplay down 4%, the song’s combined performance was still strong enough to preserve its top spot.
This latest feat also marks a return to familiar territory for SZA. Before “Not Like Us” set the benchmark, her 2022–2023 smash “Kill Bill” held the record with 21 weeks at No. 1 on the same chart.
“Luther” continues to fuel the historic year for Lamar and SZA, both currently co-headlining the Grand National tour. The success of their genre-bending collaboration further solidifies their influence at the intersection of hip-hop and R&B.
With no signs of slowing, “Luther” could break its tie with “Not Like Us” next week and take sole possession of the record for longevity on the chart since its inception in 1958.
