Black Panther II has lost its soul with the passing of lead Chadwick Boseman who played T’Challa, but Lupita Nyong’o is assuring fans that Director Ryan Coogler, is cooking up something more than special for the highly anticipated sequel.
Nyong’o revealed to Good Morning America, in the midst of promoting the audiobook Sulwe Wednesday, that while Black Panther II will not have the majestic presence of Boseman’s beloved character, who died in 2020 from colon cancer, the sequel will most certainly maintain his storied legacy.
“You know, in true Marvel form, I have nothing to tell you. It’s gonna be a hard one. It’s gonna be different, of course, without our king, to go back into that world,” she said, as reported by The Direct. “But I know that all of us are dedicated to reimagining or carrying on his legacy in this new Black Panther, and Ryan Coogler has some really, really exciting ideas that I look forward to bringing to life with the rest of the family.”
People from all over the world, fans, and non-fans alike have been paying homage to Boseman’s legacy since his untimely passing. With his career honored at the recent Golden Globes along with a posthumous best actor win for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, his absence in the Disney tentpole will be felt but never forgotten.
