Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Is Cancer-Free
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed his throat cancer diagnosis back in June, and less than a year later, the rocker is cancer-free.
Mustaine told the good news to the crowd at SSE Arena in London on Friday (Jan. 31). He explained that the diagnosis came when Megadeth was recording their new album. “At first, I thought, ‘Am I afraid?'” he said. “And then I said, ‘No. I’m f—ing pissed.’ And we stopped the record, we stopped everything.”
Mustaine went through 51 radiation treatments and nine chemotherapy treatments, determined to overcome the disease so he can continue to play music. “I know a lot of you guys know that I pray,” he continued. “I say that in [Megadeth’s] ‘Peace Sells’. I pray every day. I say that in the song. I’ve said it since the second record. But I thought about you guys every day, too. And I thought about my family. And I got this power from you guys. And I just kept thinking about it."
"And on October 16th, I went to go see the doctor, and he said, ‘You’re 100 percent free of cancer,'" he concluded.
Megadeath released their latest album, Warheads on Foreheads, in 2019. See the full concert a fan YouTube channel below, with the cancer-free announcement beginning at around the 28-minute mark.
