Missy Elliott Time Travels Through Different Musical Eras in ‘Why I Still Love You’ Watch

Missy Elliott's creative genius was on display once again on Thursday (Jan. 16), as she returned to unleash her "Why I Still Love You" visual. The track originally released in 2019 as part of Missy's Iconology EP.

The clip was directed by Missy along with Derek Blanks. Monica also stars in the video as a mother figure, who is tasked with explaining the legend of Missy and The Demeanors to a younger girl. The museum scene pivots to Elliott's Motown-inspired girl band performance in black-and-white from 1961, before time traveling to her colorful disco and emo-punk eras from the following decades.

With Thursday also serving as what would have been Aaliyah's 41st birthday, Missy took some time to celebrate Baby Girl's legacy. "#HappyBDayAaliyah you are still inspiring people," she wrote. "Your edgyness & smooth dancing SO EFFORTLESS your UNIQUENESS & STYLE unmatched MUSICALLY your songs will 4EVER be NEXT LEVEL! RIP babygal 4Ever Loved."

The Songwriters Hall of Fame member was also tapped as one of the headliners for June's Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC. Missy will be hitting the stage alongside Stevie Nicks, Solange, Tame Impala, and more.
