MSNBC Anchor Joy Reid to Take Over 7 pm Weekday Slot

According to new reports, MSNBC is planning to take move long time weekend host Joy Reid to the 7 pm weekday broadcast. Reid will replace former Hardball host Chris Matthews who suddenly retired from the network in March amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Upon taking the new role, Reid will be the networks only Black female weekday anchor. The 51-year-old journalist had been hosting her weekend show AM Joy since 2016.

The move is not official as of yet. The current 7 p.m. show has had a rotation of hosts since Hardball ended and was replaced with MSNBC Live.

Reid’s promotion seems appropriate in a time where Black voices are being uplifted across the country. Even as a weekend host Reid’s voice has been a prominent one and now with a 5-day schedule we can expect Reid to have a louder voice as we continue the conversations on race.
