Birds Of Tokyo are nesting atop Australia’s albums chart with Human Design (EMI), while SAINt JHN logs a fourth week at No. 1 on the national singles survey with “Roses” (Sony) and Travis Scott & Kid Cudi’s collaboration “The Scotts” (Universal/Sony) enjoys a strong start.
Human Design bows at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart to give Birds Of Tokyo their second leader, following March Fires, which went to the top in March 2013.
It’s the Perth band’s sixth studio album, and the followup to Brace, which peaked at No. 3 in November 2016.
Human Design went to the top on the same day Birds of Tokyo on the inaugural The State of Music streaming series, and its release coincided with the April 25 Music From The Home Front prime-time televised virtual concert, during which the group performed “Unbreakable” with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
“Even in isolation the band are still pushing boundaries, and their stirring anthems are just what the country needs in these challenging times,” comments ARIA CEO Dan Rosen.
Human Design is the sixth homegrown album to lead the chart this year. “It is so great to see another Australian act top the ARIA Chart,” adds Rosen, “and it proves that in this time of crisis Australian music fans are looking to our local artists for comfort and entertainment more than ever.”
The Anzac Day special Music From The Home Front ignited chart spikes for a string of performers including Dean Lewis (A Place We Knew up 30-13 via Island/Universal), Tame Impala (The Slow Rush up 23-19 via Island/Universal), Tones And I (The Kids Are Coming up 34-27 via Bad Batch/Sony), Cold Chisel (The Best Of…reenters at No. 38 via Cold Chisel/Universal), G Flip (About Us reenters at No. 42 via Future Classic) and Paul Kelly (Greatest Hits reenters at No. 48 via GAWD/EMI).
Also new to the survey this week is Trivium’s What The Dead Men Say, starting at No. 5. It’s the U.S. metal band’s sixth top ten and ninth studio album overall.
It’s game time for Travis Scott, whose Astroworld leaps 41-10 off the back of his popular concert in Fortnite. Astroworld debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in August 2018. Scott also has his name on the week’s top debuting single.
Meanwhile, SAINt JHN’s “Roses” chalks-up a full month atop the ARIA Singles Chart, claiming the chart crown ahead of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (Republic/Universal) and Drake’s “Toosie Slide” (Republic/Universal), respectively.
The highest new entry, Travis Scott and Kid Cudi’s “The Scotts,” starts at No. 4 after snippets of the single were teased during Scott’s Fortnite missions. It’s the rapper’s first top ten entry since “Highest In The Room” went to No. 3 in October 2019, and Kid Cudi’s first appearance in the top 50 since “Just What I Am” peaked at No. 32 in Oct 2012.
And finally, Juice WRLD’s posthumous release “Righteous” (Interscope/Universal) starts at No. 15. The rapper, who passed away in December 2019, charted earlier in January as the featured artist on Eminem’s “Godzilla” (No. 3) and as a solo artist last December with “Bandit” (No. 45).
