With the NBA ready to restart in July, Avery Bradley has informed the Los Angeles Lakers he will not be with the team in Orlando.

ESPN reports, Bradley will be staying with his family to ensure that his 6-year-old son, Liam, is safe. Bradley shares three children with his wife Ashley.

“As committed to my Lakers teammates and the organization as I am, I ultimately play basketball for my family,” Avery Bradley said. “And so, at a time like this, I can’t imagine making any decision that might put my family’s health and well-being at even the slightest risk.

“As promised also, I will use this time away to focus on the formation of projects to help strengthen my communities.”

The mention of strengthening his communities refers to a stance he took with Kyrie Irving and Dwight Howard to push for social justice within NBA circles.

With Bradley out, the Lakers are reportedly eyeing J.R. Smith to join the squad for the stretch run.
