Facing backlash after defending a disgraced filmmaker, Spike Lee is now apologizing for his comments in a radio interview on Friday. The Da Five Bloods director posted on Twitter regretting his praise of Woody Allen who was accused of molesting his daughter Dylan Farrow.

“I Deeply Apologize. My Words Were WRONG. I Do Not And Will Not Tolerate Sexual Harassment, Assault Or Violence. Such Treatment Causes Real Damage That Can’t Be Minimized,” Spike wrote on Twitter.

In the interview with WOR, Lee called his “friend” Woody Allen a great filmmaker and claimed that Allen was a victim to cancel culture

“I’d just like to say Woody Allen is a great, great filmmaker…and I think when we look back on it we are going to see that — short of killing somebody — I don’t know that you can just erase somebody like they never existed,” Spike said in the interview.

Woody Allen was acquitted from charges of sexual molestation but to this day Dylan Farrow stands by her claim that Allen molested her as a 7 year old girl. Suspicions that Allen may have molested his daughter didn’t dissipate when in 1997 he married his ex-wife’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi Priven.

The accusations against the comedian pre-date the #MeToo movement that has supplanted the careers of Hollywood elites like Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Louis C.K.
