The Dryes Want to ‘Take You Dancin’ in Feel-Good New Single: Exclusive

Husband and wife duo The Dryes kick things up a notch in its infectious new single “Take You Dancin’,” which Billboard premieres today (Jan. 30). The feel-good tune has Derek and Katelyn Drye sharing harmonies on the foot-stomping number where the band sings of not being able to wait until Friday for a night of dancing.

Derek is on lead vocals throughout the track, which he co-wrote with his wife, Katelyn, Parker Welling and Greg Bates. The singer-songwriter says the idea for the song came to him one morning while cooking eggs.

“It was literally one of those moments where you’re just in a goofy mood, spouting off random funny phrases that rhyme,” he tells Billboard. “I kept saying: ‘I can’t take my eyes off you…but I sure can take you dancin.’ Something about that contrast felt playful in a Conway/Loretta tongue-in-cheek way, so I started playing this riff and singing that during our write later that day.”

Adds Katelyn, “Our co-writers took it a step further, and started spouting off these unreal details about a dive bar scene: White stitched Laredo boots, a disco ball, bar flies, peanut dust and how we got there. We kept bouncing phrases off of each other and combining this thought with the original idea, and ‘Take You Dancin’ became a song about how to get to this amazing bar that we love.”

“Take You Dancin’” follows the release of previous songs “Marley,” “War” and “Amen.” The latter was featured on the duo’s debut EP, 2018’s Vol. 1.
