Trump Commutes Sentence of Friend, Advisor Roger Stone

Roger Stone was to report to prison on Friday but the President decided to commute his 40-month sentence. Stone was convicted of 7 felonies related to the Russia investigation.

Since Stone was sentenced, Trump has openly hinted that he would pardon his longtime friend calling the investigation a “hoax” that wrongly prosecuted Trump Administration officials.

“These charges were the product of recklessness borne of frustration and malice,” Trump’s Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in an official statement on the commutation. “This is why the out-of-control Mueller prosecutors, desperate for splashy headlines to compensate for a failed investigation, set their sights on Mr. Stone.

The Press Secretary also cited Stone’s clean criminal record, old age and medical health as reasons for commuting his sentence.

Stone was convicted for obstruction of the Russia investigation with prosecutors saying the 67 year old political player lied under oath. Trump stood by him the entire time the same way that he’s stood behind his other officials who were investigated and didn’t flip on him.
