"I think there's a wild man in everybody. I'm a split personality." That's how the first trailer for the upcoming Ozzy Osbourne biopic Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy opens, as the beloved metal icon provides voice over narration for shots of his industrial hometown of Birmingham, England. As the camera pans to present-day, long-haired Ozzy standing on a street corner, the screen reveals that the Ozzy who is speaking is the buzzcut-sporting Ozzy from the 1980s, his eyes wild with energy.
The scene shifts to a screening room, as Ozzy watches footage of his younger days, including schoolboy pics that remind him of how full of fear he was as a child. The 86-minute A&E-produced film slated to debut at this spring's South by Southwest festival chronicles John Michael Osbourne's rise from those frightened younger days to global superstardom as a solo act and reality-TV fame on MTV's The Osbournes.
Of course, he touches on the way "alcohol and dope" helped him become a class clown who entertained millions over the years as his life spun out of control, with producer Rick Rubin wondering what music would be like without him. "Ozzy changed everything," says Rubin, with Marilyn Manson, Post Malone, Rob Zombie and Jack Osbourne talking about the timeless nature of Osbourne's music and how his working-class roots made him who he is. "I think Ozzy's music is timeless," Malone says. "It makes me cry and gives me the chills."
"He left one of the biggest rock bands in the world and became bigger," says wife/manager Sharon Osbourne. The legendary rocker is prepping his Ordinary Man album (Feb. 21), which will feature appearances from pal Elton John, Post Malone, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello and Slash, as well as Guns N' Roses' Duff McKagan on bass and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
