Billy Corgan: NWA Not for Sale, Crockett Cup Hits May 17
NWA President William Patrick Corgan dropped a video this week responding to growing speculation about the promotion’s future. In no uncertain terms he reminded fans that he is the sole owner of the company and that the National Wrestling Alliance is not for sale.
Corgan also used the promo to spotlight the Crockett Cup 2025, the NWA’s flagship tag‑team tournament returning to Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena on May 17.

“There’s an insane amount of chatter right now in the world of professional wrestling about the future of the sport. Perhaps more so than at any time in its 100 plus year history. And for those that don’t know, about 8 years ago, I bought the National Wrestling Alliance for this very moment.
To tell you all that the NWA isn’t just about its past, but its present and its future. So on May 17th in Philadelphia, at the historic 2300 Arena, the Crockett Cup, the most prestigious tag tournament in the history of the sport.
16 teams vying for the ultimate prize to be named the winner of the Crockett Cup. And of course, we’ll have other incredible matches, five championship matches, including NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tom Latimer facing hardcore legend Rhino in the very building he made his name.
But perhaps even more telling to this historical evening, WWE superstar Natalya steps through the ropes into an NWA ring for the very first time. And we’re so grateful to WWE for affording us this incredible opportunity.
But that brings me to the most salient point of all. As people begin to speculate about the future of the NWA, I am the 100% owner of the National Wrestling Alliance. I have staked my name, my reputation, and yes, even my fortune, on the future of this company.
For I believe in who we are and what we do. And this is not to denigrate anybody that we’re in business with. But the National Wrestling Alliance isn’t going anywhere. Because for 77 years before me and for 77 years after me, the NWA, the National Wrestling Alliance, the original promotion, the granddaddy of them all, laid the foundation.
So come May 17th, 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, PA, where history will be forged and legends are made at the Crockett Cup.”There’s an insane amount of chatter right now in the world of professional wrestling about the future of the sport. What Is the Crockett Cup?
First held in 1986 by Jim Crockett Promotions, the Crockett Cup has long been the gold standard for tag‑team tournaments. Past winners include the Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff, and Villain Enterprises. Revived by the NWA in 2019, the event now serves as both a nostalgia trip and a showcase for today’s best teams.
