Tim Montana Opens Up About Therapy, New Music and Helping First Responders

A New Chapter of Introspection

Tim Montana has never been one to shy away from the raw, personal nature of songwriting. However, with the release of his latest single, “Break Me Down,” the artist is diving deeper into his own psyche than ever before. In a recent conversation with Loudwire Nights, Montana revealed that his creative process has recently been fueled by a commitment to mental health and self-discovery.

“I’ve kind of been doing some deep diving into myself,” Montana shared. The artist candidly admitted that he recently began therapy to address childhood trauma, a decision that has profoundly influenced his latest work. “I was surprised I got a PTSD diagnosis from some of the things I saw as a kid. I thought that was something that maybe only soldiers got.”

By speaking openly about his experiences, Montana hopes to break the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly in his home state of Montana, which faces significant challenges regarding suicide rates. “I have issues just like anyone else, anxiety issues, a lot of rock musicians have it, but it stems from childhood trauma. So I thought I’d put the right foot forward and lead by example.”

The Therapeutic Power of Songwriting

For Montana, music serves as both a sanctuary and a weapon. He views the act of writing as a means of processing his demons, though he acknowledges the double-edged nature of that process. “As much good as I can do in the world with this, as much work ethic and stuff that I have, it’s like, I can’t shut that off, the demons are there,” he explained. “So, I can write about it. I can talk about it.”

His upcoming album, Entire State of Montana, due July 17, represents the culmination of this introspective period. While he plans to continue drawing from his life experiences, he feels he has reached a point of closure on some of his deeper struggles. “Some of these songs on this record, I decided that’ll probably be the last time I talk about it that deep.”

“The last song on the album, I cried writing it, I cried singing it. It’s the realest thing you’ve ever heard. It’s dark. It’s very dark, but I had to get it out.”

Advocacy and Connection

Beyond his music, Montana has become a vocal advocate for rural EMS and first responders. His platform has allowed him to bridge the gap between his artistic career and the critical needs of those serving on the front lines. “I’m not a doctor, I’m not a politician, I’m a guitar player, but I have a passion,” he noted. “When I see something awful like that, I have to get involved.”

Montana also reflected on his professional relationships, including his connection with actor Robert Patrick, which was fostered through shared work with veterans and a mutual friend, Jerrod Niemann. These personal connections continue to shape both his music and his philanthropic efforts, grounding him as he navigates his growing career in both music and film.
