Watch Jack White Play the National Anthem at Detroit Tigers Opener

Rocker and Detroit native Jack White played a strikingly inventive instrumental version of the U.S. national anthem at Detroit's Comerica Park on Friday (April 8), as shown in the Detroit Free Press.

The ex-White Stripes bandleader's star-spangled banger kicked off the Opening Day festivities for MLB's Detroit Tigers at the baseball stadium. White drove the patriotic performance with some bluesy guitar pickin', meaning tuned-in sports fans got plenty of twang for their buck. (The artist's hair is also now dyed blue, a look that he initially debuted last year; the above photo is from his first pitch at a 2014 Tigers game.)

Watch White's anthem near the bottom of this post. It was his first time ever performing it, as he mentioned in an interview, which can also be seen below.

The former White Striper is releasing two solo albums this year. The first, Fear of the Dawn, arrived on Friday; Entering Heaven Alive follows in July. Ahead of Dawn's arrival, Jack White fans got to hear the singles "Taking Me Back" and the title track "Fear of the Dawn," each from the first effort, as well as "Love is Selfish" from Entering Heaven Alive. White is now performing across North America in support of them.

"The Star-Spangled Banner," made a famous guitar instrumental by the late Jimi Hendrix, has been tackled by others including members of Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, Tool's Adam Jones, Zakk Wylde and more.
